NURSING HOME PERFORMANCE

Belding, Michigan was the setting for what may prove to be Music City's most memorable performance of 2009, and it didn't even take place inside the fine stadium at Belding High School. The corps was rehearsing across the street from the school when Hoagie, a resident at a nursing home next door, became quite fascinated with the corps. After learning how much the corps' newest fan was enjoying the rehearsal, a member of the instructional staff made arrangements for the corps to give a performance for everyone at the nursing home in their parking lot.

Most all of the residents were brought outside to hear the corps' performance. Drum major Wes King presented Hoagie (who was seated front row center of course) with a corps shirt. He promptly slipped the bright red shirt on over the one he had worn before the corps could even play the first note. While not your typical drum corps audience, the men and women in attendance quite clearly made their appreciation known, even requesting an encore which was granted. There was hardly a dry eye to be found when all was finished.

The nursing home sent over ice cream sandwiches for the corps later in the day. It was the perfect ending to a day that everyone there will always remember.
