DECEMBER CAMP REPORT
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
Wow! Just wow!!! The 2010 edition of Music City Drum and Bugle Corps had a spectacularly successful camp December 19-20. Even though several members were not in attendance due to being snowed in or were among those in New Orleans with the Middle Tennessee State band at a bowl game, the staff and members in attendance agreed this was the corps' best camp ever! While this camp was for brass and percussion only, the returning vets and newcomers melded quickly.
The horn line produced a very mature sound as they were lead through various new exercises by the five brass instructors on hand. Caption head Brian Kackley and brass arranger Brian Diller also rehearsed "Tennessee Waltz", the corps song, and "St. Louis Blues", a chart from the 2010 production "River Sounds", with the horn line.
Alan Rice, percussion caption head, and Hunter Stricklin, percussion arranger, along with four of our percussion techs welcomed six new percussion applicants who chose to join in all of the excitement for the first time. The front ensemble made noticably impressive progress during the weekend. The battery spent much of their time rehearsing their new cadence for 2010.
Visual caption head Scott Tanner and four members of his visual staff lead the corps through an extensive three-hour visual block. Several bystanders noted the improved intensity displayed by the corps over marching efforts of last season.
We had a very large crowd of family and friends on hand for our "show and tell" at the conclusion of camp. Thank you for braving the elements to lend the corps your support. And we offer a big thank you to White House High School and band director Eric Scott for your enthusiastic hospitality in hosting the corps. We would not have had the great camp we did without your support. Lastly, thank you members for your efforts throughout the weekend. You've set the bar very high for future camps. Can't wait for the next one!
